Frequently Asked Questions About Search Engine Submission

Search engine submission is so simple that we include it with our standard client engagements, although it’s usually unnecessary. Listed below are some questions commonly asked by our customers:

    1. Must I submit my site to be indexed?
Most major search engines follow links in order to find new sites. Sites that have many other sites linked to them have the greatest chance of being accessed by these search engines. As a result your chances of being listed by several major search engines is good if you have several links. Free submission is available, but often takes longer than access through links.

    2. Must I resubmit my site as the content is changed?
Most search engines will return to your site occasionally to look for changes in content or to make sure your site still exists. If they have reason to believe your site no longer exists if it is unavailable for several weeks, you will be taken off their index. If the content changes, they will make adjustments.

    3. Will it help my site’s ranking to resubmit?
    No.

    4. Do I need to submit every page of my site?
The answer is no, unless you have insufficient links within your site or it has quite a few menus or folders. Otherwise, the search engine will follow the links within your site.

    5. Does paid inclusion affect my site’s ranking?
Some sites offer paid inclusion programs to speed up the listing process from months to hours. However, this will not affect the ranking of your site. In fact, many companies no longer use paid inclusion programs because they aren’t willing to risk being perceived as compromising search engine objectivity.
